R. Ross (Buck) Slote

Peacefully passed away at the West Haldimand General Hospital on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of 85.

Loving father of Cary (Kim) and Nikki (Dan) and grandpa to Easton, Logan and Summer. Buck will also be especially missed by Bev Thomas, his special friend of many years and her family.

Son of the late Peter & Lila (Nelles) Slote and dear brother of Mary Munro of Burlington.  Predeceased by his siblings Mildred (Wray) Stone and Carl (Ruthanne) Slote. Buck will also be fondly remembered by Donna whom although separated for many years continued to be friends and enjoyed family events. Buck is also survived by his nephews Jamie (Lisa) and David Slote and niece Diane Stone. Predeceased by his nephews Laird Stone and Donald Munro and niece Sarah Munro.

In the early years, Buck owned and operated Peter Slote & Sons Transport with his father Peter and brother Carl. When not working as a mechanic or truck driver, he devoted much of his time to the Community in various aspects such as Councillor for the Village of Hagersville, a member of the Hagersville Lions Club and involved in many sports organizations both playing and coaching. In his semi-retirement he returned to R.F. Almas Company where he had previously been employed for numerous years. Buck served as a firefighter and Chief of Station 2 Hagersville for a total of 46 years and was also a long-standing member of the Hagersville Legion Branch 164. Throughout his years, his leisure time was spent boating and enjoying time at the Woodlawn cottage, snowmobiling, skiing, tinkering with his 1928 Model A and cheering on his favourite sports teams.

Cremation has taken place and the family will honor him with a private service on Friday, July 21st at the Hyde & Mott Chapel of R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hagersville Legion Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 3 - ? pm. with speeches at 4pm. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Hagersville Legion.   www.rhbanderson.com
