Laura M. A. Best (Maillet) of Hagersville passed peacefully at home on Sunday, May 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. Laura was the loving wife of the late George A. Best (1998). She was born on February 11, 1939, to the late Adelard and Marie Maillet of Waweig, New Brunswick. She was cherished by her six children, Edwina (Wayne) of French Cove, N.S., Shelley of Hagersville, Gerald (Lynn) of Hamilton, George (Kim) of Hamilton, Nicole (Chris) of Stouffville and Marianne (Ken) of Wainfleet. Loved by her stepchildren, Eddie (Gail) and Vada (late Roy) and families.
Grammy’s grandchildren were her pride and joy: Brendan, Kaitlyn, Brad, Shantal, Robert, Jessica, Tiffany, AJ, Mathew, Tyler, Alexander, Bradley, Daniel, Evelyn, Kendra and Wyatt. Great-Grandma shared giggles with Sofia and Sadie. Grandma was predeceased by her grandson, Stefan in 2016.
Laura also survived by her dear brothers Armond (Grace), Rene (Donna) and her sister Alma (late Lloyd). Predeceased by her brothers Andrew (late Olive), Albanie (Patricia), Sam (Claire), Steve (late Frances) and Gerard. Missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Laura and George were the proud owners of Laura’s Groceteria and Gas Bar that later became Laura’s Restaurant of Dawson City. Customers quickly became lifelong friends that enjoyed many meals and conversations.
The family will honour her life with visitation at the Hyde & Mott Chapel, R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes Ltd., 60 Main Street South, Hagersville on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. where funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday May 26, 2023 at 1 p.m. Interment Hagersville Cemetery. My deepest condolences. I have fond memories of spending meals at the restaurant with my parents when I brought the bus back on Friday afternoons. It is hard to separate those times with my parents and not remember Laura and others that congregated there.

Sending my condolences to the whole family. It was a joy to help make Laura more comfortable and keep her smiling in the last few weeks of her life. Thank you for sharing so many stories of her adventures, and hope Laura will be an inspiration for the whole family to bond closer. Every time I hear Hank Williams, I will think of Laura fondly.
