Gordon Robert Hardie

We are broken hearted to announce the sudden passing on June 29, 2022 of Gordon Robert Hardie, who left us at the age of 88.
Gord is survived by his wife and best friend Earla Jane (Short) of 65 years. Beloved father of Robert, Mary Jane and son-in-law Tim. Amazing grandfather to Samantha (Joshua), Allyson (Travis) and Christopher (Morgan).  He will be fondly remembered as a loving brother, brother-in-law and special uncle to many nieces and nephews. Gord will be sadly missed by many good friends and neighbours.
Gord was born in Parry Sound, Ontario. He began working at a young age on the CNR railway as a telegraph operator. He travelled all around Ontario which brought him to Hagersville. He also worked for RF Almas company and retired from Dofasco in 1992.
Gord has always been and will always be the kindest, friendliest, and most generous man. Gord valued community, greeting strangers he would pass on the streets with a big hello or handshake, cherishing conversation with neighbours no matter how quick. You couldn’t walk by Gord’s home without hearing a knock on the window for a wave or Gord coming out to provide a treat for the kids or your dog. Gord also enjoyed a trip to the airport with his son for a ride in the airplane and cutting his grass with his John Deere lawn mower.
He will be remembered by his family for his larger than life hugs and kisses, a gentle hand to hold and a loving heart and we will carry on Gord’s tradition of providing a cool drink to the waste collectors during their rounds.
Thank you for the special care from all the nurses and doctors at West Haldimand General and Norfork General Hospitals.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at his resting site at the Gore Cemetery in Clanbrassil. A celebration of life is scheduled for 2-4pm on Wednesday, July 6th at the Hagersville Legion branch 164. In Lieu of flowers donations will be accepted at the legion to the West Haldimand General Hospital or a charity of your choice in memory of Gord.
Gord’s memory will live on through the lives he touched.
