Evelyn Godden (Kovacs)
(February 8, 1940 – May 29, 2025)
Evelyn was reunited with her loving husband of 54 years, Don; her parents, Ann and Andy Kovacs; and her brothers Al, Andy, and his wife, Edith.
She is survived by Phil (Barbara), Ann (Jack, deceased), sister-in-law Margaret (Al, deceased), Betty (Bob, deceased), and Florence (Bernie, deceased).
Evelyn also leaves behind her children, Pat (Mike, deceased), and Dave (Donna), and was a cherished and adored grandmother to five grandchildren: Mike (Carla), Matt (Trish), Mel (Martin), Larry Johnson (Tara), Josh, and Kelsie (Brandon). She was a beloved great-grandmother to eight blessed great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Evelyn was an accomplished darts and bowling champion, belonging to the Hamilton Women’s Dart League and the Stoney Creek Seniors Bowling League. She was also a long-standing member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 622. Perhaps her greatest championship came in 2019, when she courageously won her battle with breast cancer.
Evelyn found joy in knitting and crocheting, pouring love into every stitch. She shared this passion generously—through thoughtful gifts to family, offerings at craft fairs, and by passing down her skills to her great-granddaughter Maggie. Each handmade piece remains a lasting symbol of her care and creativity, treasured by all who were lucky enough to receive one.
Evelyn was the type of person whose strength did not need to be loud—it was steady and unwavering. It lived in her actions, in the way she showed up for the people she loved, no matter the weight she carried herself. Her love was constant, like the sun rising without being asked. She had a way of making others feel safe just by being near. And though she is no longer here, her presence lingers—in the lessons she taught, the warmth she gave, and the way she made others feel truly seen.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Ontario SPCA in honour of Evelyn and her beloved dog, Goliath.
How fortunate we are to have been so loved by such an incredible woman. You may rest beyond our reach, but you remain ever near.
Until we meet again one day, Gram… xoxo
