THOMAS:  Winnifred Frances “Winnie”

Peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at home on Thursday October 18, 2018 at the age of 74 years.  Beloved wife of 57 years to Ron Thomas.  Loving mother of Jane & Wayne, Kim & Andy, Darren & Karen, Michelle, and Ronnie Jr. & Becky.  Treasured Soht of Danielle & Cole, Seneca & Katelyn, Harmony, Angela, Shona, Alicia, Mikaila, Andrew, Bradley, Delaney, Eliza, Alexis, Emmalea, Olivia, and Allie.  Cherished Sohty Pop to Cadence, Oriah, Chloe, Oakley, and Iris.  Sister of Elizabeth, Sandra & Gary, Peter & Kathy, and Brenda.  Sister-in-law of Ivan, Del, Carol, Elvera, and Gloria.  Special friend of Rosemond Skye.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by son Danny; grandson Jacob; parents Peter & Theresa (Snow) Mitten; siblings Manuel, Ramon, Lance, Karen, and Rodger.  Winnie was a Faith Keeper at the Seneca Longhouse and a strong advocate for our language and culture.  She was a graduate of McMaster University in the Social Science program, working many years helping our people on their journey to healing and wellness.  Resting at her home, 3220 5th Line, Six Nations after 6pm. Thursday.  Funeral Service will be held at Seneca Longhouse, Six Nations on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11 am. followed by burial at Lower Cayuga Longhouse.  Special thanks to Dr. Jason Zacks, Dr. Amy Montour, and Six Nations Palliative Care Team.  At Winnie’s request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seneca Longhouse building fund.
