Walter Dennis Martin

February 2, 1942 – September 14, 2026



It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter Dennis Martin.  Walter passed away peacefully and on his terms at the Iroquois Lodge Nursing Home, Brantford.  Walter was born at the Lady Willingdon Hospital in Ohsweken, Ontario and lived his entire life on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.  Survived by his wife of 62 years Joanne (Powless) and his children Kim Martin, Lana (Derek) Hill and Brad (Anastasia) Martin.  His loving grandchildren Ashley (Shawn), Megan (Kyle), Corrie (Nathan), Nicole (Kyle), Brandon (Alex) and Raven and great grandchildren Jake, Lauren, Justin, Caleb, Khloe, Jude, Matty, Oliver, Bernice, Connor and Rylee.  Predeceased by his parents Angus and Florence (Lickers) Martin, his son Hal Martin, brothers Brian and Al Martin and his granddaughter Kelsey Hill.  Survived by his siblings Diane Hill (Jim), Sharon (Jerry) Hill, Ralph Martin, Mary (Karin) Hill and Pete Martin.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Walter was an Ironworker his entire life and a member of Ironworkers Local 736 Hamilton and Ironworkers Local 11 New Jersey.  Walter was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings and loved watching NHL and NFL.  The family would like to thank the staff at Iroquois Lodge and Catherine Ormond who cared for him during his final days.

Walter will be cremated and laid to rest at the Grand River United Cemetery close to his parents resting place.  As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service, the immediate family will hold a private gathering and celebrate his memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the foundation of Walter’s granddaughter Kelsey at www.teamkelsey.ca where all donations are received by the Ronald McDonald House South Central Ontario.
