Smith:  Sara

A Dancing Star has danced her last dance upon Mother Earth and now dances her way to the Sky World.  Sara Smith, born 1940, loving wife of Roger Smith of 56 years embarks on a new journey. Incredible mother of Rock (Caron), Kim, (Ginny) Con (Joanne) and Karen.  She was a treasured Gran to Jamie, Tia, Stacy, Sidney, Chrissy, Jenny, Holly, Kai, Kati, Bailey and Quinn. Now she embraces her cherished grandson, Roger Lee in spirit. A doting great Gran to Madisyn, Kimaura, Kohen, Madex, Rilynn, Romyn, Ryersyn, Sylken, Logan, Cecil, Lena, Ryan, Damon, Jeffrey, Kamden Cruise, and Locklan. Dear sister to David Smith, Diane Robertson, Steve Smith and now greets her brothers in spirit, Brock and Morris. She also reunites with her parents, Oliver and Elda(Bun) Smith. Sara had quite the creative flair for crafts, and was a renowned potter. Her earlier years were spent within the school system teaching crafts and story telling.  She had a tender heart for the many children she taught. She managed the Special Services for Special People Gift shop, truly treasuring and honouring the folks there.  Though not recognized she did have a hand in the establishment of the Six Nations Minor Hockey system as well. It was her greatest passion to speak about the Great White Roots of Peace, Colours, and the Dreamtime. She did much travelling about Mother Earth to share this knowledge. She established the Roots for Peace Centre, the Pine and Cedar circles and had people from all walks of life visit these spiritual meeting spaces. Her family honoured her with a very private visitation as this was her wish. We say to this radiant Dancing Star, “Ó:nen ki' wáhi - until we meet again.” Donations may be made to the Iroquois Lodge in her honour.   www.rhbanderson.com

Whenever I saw Sara she always had the time to stop and talk. After even the briefest of conversations, I was left with a new life lesson, and a good feeling inside. She did that to people- it was her gift.
My condolences to the family. She touched my life deeply.

RIP Sara. Condolences to Roger, Rock & Caron, Kim and Gin, Con and Joanne and Karen, and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the rest of the family.
She was always so kind to everyone she came into contact with, esp my brother Duane during her time at Special Services, you made him feel so good about himself, and for that i will always be grateful.
When my boys, Andy & Abby were little, she always wanted to steal them from me, i know she loved them as well and they loved her back and always looked forward to her hugs.
She came to see me when my mom passed and held me as i cried, allowing me to grieve for a little while.
Until we meet again Sara, may the Creator grant you good rest.
sending hugs and love, from Glyniss, Andrew and Adam Bomberry

I have such fond childhood memories of Sara. One summer my parents (Elizabeth and Bill Meloche) loaded our gang in the station wagon, and we went to visit 6 Nations. I was a 13 yr. old teenie bopper at the time LOL. I remember REALLY not wanting to go, because I would rather be with my friends! (Plus I was missing a Record Hop LOL!!!) So the drive from Kahnawake to 6 Nations seemed endless to me! However, once I was there it turned out to be an amazing experience. This had a lot to do with meeting and spending time with Sara (along with Roger, her parents, her siblings and her family). I never forgot how kind and good she was to our brood during that visit. Her stories and teachings helped me to get over missing home, and to appreciate other Mohawk communities/cultures. Nia:wenkowa Sara.

I am so sorry to hear of Sara's passing. I didn't know Sara really - we met each other only a handful of times. When I was a teenager I was fortunate to be at a Youth and Elder's Gathering where Sara shared with us and did her basket teachings, where she had us pick little wrapped stones and then gave us teachings about stones and colours. I wish I remember more of what she said, but some of it has stuck with me throughout my life and her teachings imbued me with a deep sense of purpose in my life. I went from being a kid heading down a troublesome path to transforming my life and to believing I had a reason for being in this world. It still amazes me that someone who is part of your life for just a moment, can come to mean so much. I can't imagine how much she has meant to her loved ones. I wish her well on her journey.

Condolences to the family. Sara was a beautiful lady... so serene and gentle in nature. My earliest memory is of her reciting a Pauline Johnson poem to her father's class, our grade 6 class. Sara dressed in her buckskin inspired love for Pauline's work and poems for me. Nya:weh

My thoughts are with all of you on your loss as Sara ends her Earth Walk.

It was a blessing to have had her as a friend and teacher. Sara was wise and balanced, beautiful inside out. Her remarkable eyes and gentle voice could drop one easily into trance. She tred softly on the earth and yet her imprint was large. Sara,s presence augmented all who came in contact with her, no wonder she was called upon to share her teachings far and wide.

A statment Sara made when she visited Brescia College remains with me always. It was delivered at a workshop on Dreams, however Sara had somrehing she wishef to share, and these were her words. "There was a time with my people, when women had the power. Then they gave it over to the men and that was rightful. But now it is time for women to take back the power because the world is in a mess and women know how to clean up messes."

One can only imagine what this remarkable woman will orchestrate from Spirit.

May the memories of Sara,s life bring comfort to those who mourn.

May it be well with you dear one.

Just learned of Sara's passing. I met her at a difficult time, and she was exactly the right person at exactly the right time: I remember her kind, gentle spirit, and the love she shared with us all. I am honoured to have known her. My condolences to her family and friends.

Charlie and I have treasured Grandmother Sara's Teachings and her place in our lives since the early 1990's. We spent many times at various gatherings and visiting her in our home and in hers throughout the years. We moved into the 'near' north to create our dream of living respectfully and becoming closer to the wild places. Our relationship with Sara had a profound affect on our decision. We are both sad for the family and feel for them with the loss of this amazing human being. We continue to practise the things we learned in conversation with our dear friend. We are both very grateful to have her in our lives. We know there is a special gathering in the Spirit world when Sara arrived. Her Spirit is with us as we carry on living our lives and sharing as we learn. To Roger and family we are so sorry for your loss and send our heartfelt condolences.
