GAVEY:  Ronald James

Ronald (Ron) James Gavey was born September 26, 1944 and passed away in his 75th year peacefully at home, the way he wanted to, on Monday, August 19, 2019 when he went to be with the Lord.  Ron is survived by his loving wife Linda, his children: Ken and Steve, Tania and Kelli; his grandchildren: Jesse, Brandon and Haleigh; Aaron, Emily and Sara; Griffin; Tiana, Tiffany, Jordan, Uriah, and Makayah; great grandson Cody; and his mother-in-law Connie Woolvett. He’s also survived by his brother Rick Gavey and his sister Pam Martini.
One of the interesting things about Ron was that he had a nickname for everyone like Sam, Charlie, Turkey Bird and Cow Bell.
Ron was a car and boat salesman before working on the slitter line at Dofasco, retiring in 2008 after about 30 years at the steel mill.
Ron was an avid golfer.  In fact, over the years he not only played the game, but served as the assistant golf pro at Dunnville Golf and Country Club.  He had a lot of patience when it came to teaching others how to play the game he loved.   He was actively involved in community golf courses, serving as games captain at Coral Creek and Dunnville golf courses, and organizing tournaments and teaching kids and adults.  For a time Ron enjoyed making golf clubs to meet the specific needs of golfers.
While Ron had a passion for golf, he was also a hunter, fisherman and enjoyed boating and water activities.  He had a natural ability when it came to sports.  However, biking wasn’t one of them.  Linda wanted to go for a bike ride along the beach at Hilton Head.  Ron took her to the end of the island and it was a long ride back – the first and last.  Bikes were set aside and golf clubs reigned!
Family holidays included trips to Florida, Hilton Head (his favorite) and Arizona.  Family vacations were important to Ron.  He was always generous when it came to his wife, children and grandchildren.
Ron had a sense of humour.  When Linda’s mom would come over he would always say, ‘Here for another free meal, mom?’  He would also tease her by saying, ‘I’d rather pay your rent than your food bill.’
Ron was predeceased by an infant son - David, his parents Alfred and Kay Gavey, his brother Wayne Gavey and brother-in-law Walter Martini
Ron will be greatly missed by his caring family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 2.00 pm. Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Cayuga Christian Fellowship, 71 Hwy #54, Cayuga, Ontario. www.rhbanderson.com

Jesus said,
“In me you may have peace. In the world you shall have trials,
but take heart, I have overcome the world.”
