Robert Andrew Mallen
June 16, 1960 - September 22, 2026
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of Robert Andrew Mallen, the son of Robert Mallen and Lucille Hunks Mallen. Throughout his life Bob was surrounded by the love of family, extended family and many life-long friends.
Ever a supporter of the Toronto teams, Bob loved his Blue Jays, The Raptors and The Toronto Maple Leafs. Regardless of the scores he was always in their corner, listening closely on his portable radio or watching on his big screen.
Bob was an athlete in his own right. He was an avid golfer, a baseball player for various slo pitch teams, and champion in the Brant County Dart League.
A deep thinker, Bob enjoyed a good conversation, chats about sports, the moon cycles, and life, especially around the campfire. He revelled in simple pleasures: time with family and friends, playing euchre, chatting with sisters over the phone, watching sports with his buddies, time with his nieces and nephews, nature, canning with sister Marg and friends (pickles and chili sauce were his favourites), a good home-cooked meal, any kind of dessert, a cold beer and a laugh with friends.
Fun in the sand and sun was high on Bob’s priority list with travels to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Florida, Jamaica and Panama.
Bob loved to work. He owned his own asphalt sealing business then worked at Contract Cable for many years. He was a devoted employee with Crystal Heating and Cooling as an HVAC specialist for over 35 years.
Bob loved live music and was a serious concert goer: Pink Floyd, Neil Young, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Police, The Allman Brothers The Beaches, The Tragically Hip, and many more artists.
While people rightly saw Bob as a gentle soul, he was a warrior, standing up for what is right and what is fair. In later years, Bob worked hard to retain his little piece of heaven, the place he owned and planned to retire, in Selkirk, Ontario, or as he called it ‘Selkapulco.’ His legacy, ‘Selkapulco’ embodies a call to beauty, borne of great love and great sacrifice. In the past year, Bob was preparing a space for his retirement and enjoying his property with family. He spent many hours painting and decorating his favourite space (the Bunkie) with Beautitone Blue Jay’s colour collection and making it his own.
A heartfelt thank you to the Haldimand County Community Paramedics and the Ontario Health at Home nursing staff who attended Bob at home with kindness and respect. Bob always looked forward to their visits.
As Bob insisted, we will throw a party to celebrate his life Sunday October 11th at the Brantford Knights of Columbus from 1pm to 4 pm.
Here’s to Bob, who never asked for praise, stayed kind, and always gave more than he ever expected in return. We will miss you sweet Bob.
