Rita was a valued friend, colleague and travel companion. She was very supportive of me during my early years as a principal and I will be forever thankful for her guidance. My deepest condolences to Rita's family. She was an inspiration to all of us in so many, many ways. Her years of service in education with the HWRCDSB as both teacher and administrator are well noted. Rita was a women of great and deep faith and served her parishes well. I remember this fondly while at St. Mary's in Hagersville. Her kindness to my own mother during her illness and final days will always be remembered by me. She had a wonderful sense of humour and there wasn't a thing that she wouldn't do for anyone. May God grant her eternal rest.

My thoughts are with the Family & Friends of Rita. As Property Manager of her condo high rise @ 180 Limeridge in Hamilton, I had the privilege of working with her for many years. Rita was the condo Board President from its inception through last year. She served her community well for 30+ yrs. I enjoyed her sense of humor & common-sense approach to the varied work involving the condo. As a Believer, I am confident that Heaven has gained with Rita entering there.

I am so sorry for your great loss. I knew Miss Mauro when she was our Principal at St Bernadette. We all loved her and especially loved her sense of style. I can remember being 8 or 9 and visiting Miss Mauro at school on PA days. She would let me put on her very expensive high heeled boots and walk the halls. She was such a great lady.❤️

Rita was my mother’s cousin.
I’ve known Rita for about 62 years. What I remember is her great sense of humor and a zeal for life. She had a beautiful smile and she sure knew how to laugh and get us all laughing. When I was young, I used to tell all my friends about Rita, and about her being a teacher and then a principal; I was so proud of her and always will be. I remember her orange Volvo. I really liked that car.
I always looked forward to spending time with Rita. I will miss Rita dearly, as will many.
RIP Rita; you will always have a special place in my heart ♥️

What can I say that my sister, Susan Cross, has not already said? Except for the orange Volvo, it's exactly how I will remember Rita as well. I also saw her as a take charge person, not pushy in any way at all, but there to fill in the gaps when needed. And sensitive to the needs of others. I always felt at home with Rita, even though it would be years or even decades between visits. I'm sorry you had to leave us so soon Rita. You sure did not seem like 84 years old! Always so young at heart. You will be greatly missed by so many who have had the great pleasure to know you. You will always be in my heart and memories.

I first met Rita when I arrived at St. Mary's to do my diaconate year in 1997 in preparation for my ordination to the priesthood. Rita was a kind, funny and generous woman, outspoken but very passionate about her Christian faith. We remained friends right up until the end, enjoying many early morning breakfasts over the years with Mary and Dave and my brother Gary. I will be forever grateful that Gary and I got to say goodbye just days before she died. My condolences to Helen and Rita's extended family. She will be missed by all who knew her. We now have one more voice in heaven praying for us. Rest in peace dear friend, until we meet again.
