Orest “Orie" Seychuk
February 6, 1944 - June 29, 2026
Born in 1944 in Dauphin, Manitoba, Orie was raised on the family farm. It was there that he developed the strong work ethic, humility, and practical nature that would define his character throughout his life.
Though his roots remained firmly planted in the prairies, he eventually moved to Toronto, where he built a life filled with family, enduring friendships, and cherished memories.
Orie took great pride in his career as a sheet metal worker. He was widely respected as a dependable and hardworking man who believed in doing things the right way. Above all, Orie was defined by his quiet generosity; he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, never seeking recognition for his acts of kindness.
In Toronto, Orie met the love of his life, Marion. Together, they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on mutual love, laughter, and devotion. After their time in Toronto, they moved to Mississauga and eventually found their happy place at their cottage in Selkirk. They later settled in Cayuga, where Orie embraced the pace of small-town life and enjoyed many years curling with friends.
Orie found joy in life's simple pleasures. In his younger years, he was an avid hockey and baseball player, and he remained a devoted sports fan for the rest of his life. He also held a lifelong affection for animals, particularly Golden Retrievers, and felt a special tenderness toward children. While Orie could be a man of stubborn determination, this was perfectly balanced by his kind heart. Those who knew him best understood that beneath his quiet, no-nonsense exterior was a deeply caring person whose actions always spoke louder than words.
Orie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marion, in 2025. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Mary; his nieces and nephews, John (Diane), Allen (Dawn), Diane (Robert), and Colleen (Gerald, deceased); and several great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will cherish the many memories they shared with him.
A celebration of Orie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to any local animal shelter in honour of Orie’s lifelong love of dogs and his deep compassion for all animals.
