It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Monture from complications of pneumonia on March 6, 2026 at the age of 47. He was surrounded by his loving family as he made his journey. His memory will be cherished by his mother, Emily Linklater, and father, David Monture, and his siblings Eve Monture (Terry), Sara Bomberry (Sean), Jay Monture (Georgina), Kai Monture, and Maka Monture Päki (Aorere). He was proud to be a father to Syracuse, Aaden, Mallory, and Jacob. He loved them very much. 

Joe also loved his many nieces and nephews as well as his great niece and great nephews. He was a loving grandson to Munro and Laura Linklater of Moose Cree First Nation, Moose Factory, Ontario and Bud and Irene Monture of Six Nations, Oshweken, Ontario, who have all left this earth and have been reunited. Joe was also cherished by his large family of aunts and uncles on both sides of his family. Joe grew up with his cousins that he loved and treated like siblings. Joe knew his community of Moosonee and Moose Factory very well and lent a helping hand, shared a funny joke or story and a kind word with anyone he crossed paths. He was rich with many friends and had a love of the Great White North.
 
Joe became an accomplished tradesman among many fields. He excelled in carpentry, electrical, painting, drywall, plumbing, while computer science, sewing, baking, and cooking were his forte. He was known for his making his famous donuts, wings and poutine. His pastimes included being an avid movie enjoyer, podcast listener, and playing along Jeopardy. 
 
Funeral Service will be held at Styres Funeral Home, 1798 4th Line Rd., Ohsweken on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 11 a.m. Burial is at Christ Church of Cayugas on Beavers Corner.  Feast immediately after at Six Nations Veterans Legion in Ohsweken, Ontario.
