THOMAS:  Joanne

Peacefully at home on April 23rd, 2020, Joanne Thomas began her journey home to the Creator. Beloved mother of Charles, Dallas, Summer, Sheldon, and her dog Bandit. Grandmother to Ikekiss. Daughter of Inez. Sister to Pat, Rob  (Kathy), Paula, Mark (Randi), and Jackie.   Special Auntie Mom to Haylee & Cal. Survived by many aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Traditional friend of Lydia Buck and Lisa Bressette. This beautiful soul touched a lot of  people. Joanne was very well known in the community, and a leader in Indigenous archaeology. She was an avid lacrosse fan and enjoyed going to bingo and powwows. A small private service will be held and a  celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Summer, Dallas and Charles,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother. Your mom was so proud of her children and grandchild.
I worked with Joanne for 14 years. We had quite a few conversations over the years and I come to think of her as a friend and not only a co-worker. I will miss our conversations and her assistance and suggestions.
She was quite knowledgeable about archaeology and burials and she was also passionate about it and always looked out for our community’s best interests. She knew many people and they respected her opinions. She is irreplaceable, we are so sorry to lose her, at the same time, we were lucky to have her, and the program she started is remarkable.
I am thinking of your family at this difficult time and sending you prayers and hugs, my condolences.
