James “Jim” Roberts
April 13, 1942 ~ September 11, 2026
Jim passed away peacefully in hospital, holding the hands of his daughter and grandson, on September 11, 2026 at the age of 84, after complications from vascular surgery.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Jay Roberts; daughter Alison (Steve) Cummings; grandchildren Stacy (Alicia), Candice (Cody), Ryley, Kyle (Autumn), Chase and Tyler; great-grandchildren Amberlyn, Matthew, Madison and Bennett; brothers Jack (Lynda) Roberts of Hagersville and Jerry (Lisa) Roberts of Oakville. Jim will also be dearly missed by his many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Lois, as well as his parents Herbert and Margaret.
Jim was born and raised on the family farm in Hagersville, Ontario where he developed a talent for plowing. In his younger years, he proudly won first place at an International Plowing Match.
He spent 35 years working in finance for Stelco Steel before retiring in 2000. Following his retirement, Jim operated his own accounting firm from home for many years. He later moved to Bartibog, New Brunswick in 2018, and then to St. Albert, Alberta in 2021.
Jim was passionate about old country and gospel music and often enjoyed debating with his brother Jack over which was the better quartet - the Statler Brothers or the Oak Ridge Boys. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and, after moving west, became a converted Edmonton Oilers fan, making the difficult transition from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Jim bowled for many years at Sherwood Lanes, including several years on the same team as his daughter. He also managed the Heritage Fastball team in Dundas where his brother Jerry played. Jim continued to tell stories about those days right up until his final days in hospital.
He was a past president of the Rotary Club of Hamilton Mountain Sunrise and was a proud Paul Harris Fellow. Just recently he received a Lifetime Membership Award from CPA Ontario, which he immediately displayed proudly on his wall.
Jim was a serious man, but had an infectious laugh, and always had a story to tell. He loved his family dearly and will be tremendously missed by all who knew him. While his family will miss him deeply, there is comfort in knowing that he was looking forward to being reunited with his beloved wife Lois (1948 – 2021).
Cremation has taken place. A joint memorial service for Jim and Lois will be held November 8, 2026 at 1:30pm at Hyde & Mott Chapel in Hagersville, ON with interment to follow at Oneida United Church Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the chapel beginning at 12:00pm to enjoy a light snack, visit, share memories and celebrate their lives together.
For those who wish, donations in their memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
