November 15, 1929 - October 25, 2016

Passed away peacefully at his home Hubert Leon Skye in his 87th year on Tuesday, October 25, 2016.  Son of the late Hiram & Ida (Ireland) Skye.  Survived by his loving wife of 59 years Bertha (Fraser) Skye.  Survived by his sister Edith (Skye) Mortorana of Kissimmee, Florida.  Loving father of Debbie Skye (Chris King), Darwin Skye (Pam Kick), Pam Skye, Brian Skye, and Denise Skye.  Grandfather of Stephanie (Skye) Chrysler, Christopher Skye, Courtney Skye (Anthony Erie), Sabrina Skye, Kurt Gibson, Kimberly Gibson, Makasha Lookinghorse, and Cody Lookinghorse.  Great grandfather of Zakary Skye, Elias Skye-General, and Gavin Chrysler.  Survived by traditional friends Robert Logan, Tammy Henhawk, and Kimberly Gibson.  Predeceased by siblings Stewart Skye, Viola Skye, Mina Styres, Irene Davey, and Andrew Skye.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Hubert was a devoted Faith Keeper of the Lower Cayuga Longhouse, an inspirational teacher of 37 years in schools throughout Six Nations and Ontario, and spent a lifetime of preserving the Ohgwehoweh language and culture.  He was a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the First Nations Language Council, National Aboriginal Achievement Award for culture and spirituality.  He was one of the founding members of the Gaylord Powless Arena, and a sports advocate for lacrosse, hockey, and golf, a member of the Six Nations Police Commission, and the RCMP National Aboriginal Advisory Board for Ontario.  He was also given authority through the Provincial Government to perform Traditional marriages of which he performed 400.  He will be resting at his home 3405 River Range Road after 6pm. Wednesday.  Funeral Service will be held at the Lower Cayuga Longhouse on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11 am.    www.rhbanderson.com

So sorry for your loss Darwin, we will be thinking of you and your family during this trying time. Your father was a very special man, he helped many a family during their times of sorrow. Please take care.
