Edna Mae Esselment (nee Awde)
March 27, 1929 - June 1, 2022

After a life well lived, peacefully and graciously, Edna has left this world surrounded by her family. Reunited with her beloved husband Alton (Essie), parents Bert and Mae Awde, along with sister Marion and her husband Cliff Stark.

Edna was a dedicated and caring mother to Bob (Terry Lynn), Jack (Patsy), Karen (Terry), and Bill (Manon).  Loving supporter of 8 grandchildren:  Rob (Anna), Rick (Jane), Mike (Ashley), Kathy (Cart), Bryan (Pauline), Stacey (Ryan), Kyle (Chelsea), and Taylor (Devan).  Special great-grandmother of 16:  Jane, Heath, Bea, Ava, Bowen, Mya, Brystal, Dax, James, Austin, Lauryn, Jordan, Vivian, Nathan, Alton and Alice.  She will be sadly missed but remembered with love, respect, and the fondest of memories by all who knew her.  Edna enjoyed being around people, especially children and seniors, with her smile and laughter found at the ball park or in the arena watching youth games.  A love of music, animals, cooking, writing poetry, needlework, and a knack for arts & crafts were all traits Edna possessed. Our mother was also known for her generosity, kind heart, quick wit and sharp sense of humour.  She had a zest for life!

Family will honor her life with visitation at Hyde & Mott Chapel, R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes, 60 Main St. South Hagersville on Thursday June 9th from 4:00 – 8:00pm.  A memorial service will be held in the Chapel on Friday June 10th at 11:00am.  Cremation has taken place.

Expressions of sympathy to Whispering Hearts Horse Farm, Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice is appreciated.

Family is grateful for the incredible care Edna received in her final years by staff at Leisure Living Jarvis, West Haldimand General Hospital 3rd floor, and Grandview Lodge Bridgeview Unit.

So sorry to hear about a wonderful lady that has passed. I used to live in cheapside had my backyard like a park. Many times I’d come home and she would be having a little picnic in my backyard. I was honoured to think she felt at home enough to enjoy herself by having a picnic by my little fountain and flower garden. She will be missed. I think of her often. Condolences to the family.

We are sorry to hear of Edna’s passing, but happy to know she is with her Essie again. Her huge heart was always at the ball diamond for the Fehrmans. Brought our team cold watermelon on hot days. The teams loved her. So did we. Always told me how beautiful I was dressed. She was a beautiful soul. Hugs to you Edna til we meet again.

To the Esselment Clan rooted in Hagersville. What a stalwart individual for the Community together with Essie, regular supporters of family, the ball park or arena activities, plus United Church, take your pick. Another tree planting in the park would be most appropriate. From afar in the West, Tillsonburg, we send our sincere sympathy to the families. May the Esselment legacy live on... HGH ...

Condolences to Karen and Terry and all of Edna's family. She was a special lady who brightened Chris' workday at Hagersville Arena- always left him laughing. And Edna was so kind to my brother Johnny during his illness- delivering special gifts and cards she made to him. May her loving memories strengthen you during this sad time.

Edna and I met 66 years ago when I started my teaching career at Northview school. What a wonderful person she was and continued to be throughout her lifetime! Bob was in that Grade 1 class and Edna was a constant source of help and encouragement to me and to the school.( In later years she made a beautiful quilt commemorating those students of 1956-57.) When Dave and I moved to the ‘North End’, Edna and Essie were there to welcome us and over the years it was always such a pleasure to meet up with them. When I returned to Northview before retiring, once again Edna gave her time and talents to help my students in quilting and sewing projects. She was always a very special person. She was a delight to chat with during her years at Leisure Living as her zest for life and her concern for others was always evident. My sincere condolences to all the Esselment families.
