It is with great sadness that his family has to regretfully announce the passing of David N. Cayuga at the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, in his 94th year.  He is survived and lovingly missed by his wife Patricia (Patsy), their 4 daughters, Brenda (Neil), Sharon, Linda (David), Marilyn, as well as his sister Doris Robinson of Utah; nephew Marshall (Linda) family.  He’ll also be greatly missed by grandchildren Melissa (Chris), David (Patricia), Michael—all of California, and Michelle of Toronto.  David had 5 great grandchildren, Shannon, Noah, Brooklynn, David, and Alyssa.  Predeceased & welcomed with open arms are parents Percy & Nellie Cayuga, infant son David, brothers Ralph, Donald, and nephews Gary and Daniel.

David was a proud member of Ironworkers Union 736, Hamilton, and Ironworkers Union 6, Buffalo, N.Y.  David was also an accomplished trumpet player who had back in the day, performed at local armistice, ceremonies, alongside brothers Donald and Ralph.  He also had the honour of touring with the Clyde Beatty Circus Band with Dad Percy in the 1940’s.  The auditions and practices were gruelling but worth it.  He had fond memories of the camaraderie and friendships made while travelling the U.S.

The family would like to add their appreciation to the staff of Iroquois Lodge.  Any donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Iroquois Lodge.  Cremation has taken place.  A service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date and will be announced.  Interment of cremated remains will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Cemetery.  Arrangements by Styres Funeral Home, Ohsweken.  www.rhbanderson.com

Condolence to the Cayuga families. Dad used to talk about playing in the band with the “Cayuga Boys” and what a hard worker your Dad was when they used to buy bush lots and sell wood. Good stories.

I was so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He was the last of the 4th Line neighbours, when we were growing up. Dave and my oldest brother were great friends and the same age. He was one to always greet you with a smile and a catch-up visit every time we met. I am glad that my sons were able to know him as well. My sincere sympathy and condolences to all of the family. Rest In Peace Dave.

Sincere condolences to the Cayuga family. Dad spoke highly of Dave and had lots of good memories of their younger days - his most told story was one of cutting wood, on a cold and snowy day. The dug though the snow at the “base” of the trees that were chosen to be cut. Later on as the snow disappeared they went back into the bush to find that the “base” of the trees that they cut were actually 3’ - 4’ from the ground! Then he would laugh and say “My friend and I had left a good cord of wood standing, that year.” He also would say that Dave “was the strongest man he had ever come across in his life!” Imagine the reunion in heaven today! May he Rest In Peace.

Dave was ALWAYS a blessing to me. I love him. I would love to have a church full of "Dave Cayuga's". He was a story teller. I loved hearing about the circus and him playing in the orchestra.

I will miss my grampy dearly. He was such a great man. Family was always important to him. He was always there for me and a great listener. I will cherish our chats. I can still hear his laughter - what a great sense of humour he had. I love you grampy, you will always be a part of me and my rock.

I was lucky to have known David Cayuga. I always looked forward to spending Thanksgiving and/or Christmas, visiting him on the Six Nations Reserve. I will miss having the opportunity to talk to him on the phone, or be in his presence. But I am thankful I got to share some great times with him. May he rest in peace.
