Clarence Everett Jacobs - Tǫnehdowęhs

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Clarence Everett Jacobs. Predeceased by his mother Elsie, father Freeman, brothers Alymer, Oliver, Freeman, Norman, Kenny and sister Hilda. Clarence is survived by his loving wife Ruby, daughter Cheryl (Leland), son Everett (Sarah), and precious grandchildren Summer, Kelvin, Izaak, Haven, Cali, Alexis and Oceanna. Clarence will be dearly missed by his sister Eileen and brother Arnold, and in-laws Bill (Pam), Hazel (Ron), Helen (Eugene), Frank (Ruth), Vera (John), Verna (Alex), Cindy and Angie. Medicine friend of Dewey. Special uncle and friend to Morgan. He will also be missed by his many dear nieces and nephews.

Clarence was a fluent speaker of Gayogo̱ho:no language and grew up at Beaver’s Corner. He was a lover of all sports and played lacrosse, hockey, was a thrower of snowsnake and an awesome pitcher for the Smoothtown Cubs, Six Nations Redmen, and Gates Rubber Co. in Brantford. Forever a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs and supporter of all community lacrosse teams from the minors to professionals. Clarence was employed as a Readymix truck driver with CBM in Burlington for 28 years and a member of Teamsters Local Union 879. He loved playing guitar and country music and would often play at family events. His humour will remain with us forever.

Uncle Clarence leaves me with a love of music that he gave to me as a young kid. He introduced me to the guitar, how to make it sing and soothe the mind, how it could create excitement. I recall him one time saying this particular style is called the blues, there’s not much to it but it goes like this. I can still see him in my mind laying down that boogie lick. He was always good to me through the years. He and my Dad worked together as professional truckers and I could see there was a strong support for each other. I was able to jam with Clarence one last time a year and a half ago, he appreciated Buck Owens and that Bakersfield sound, played a flat top and remembered all the words to Act Naturally and other tunes. My last telephone conversation with him saddened me when he said he didn’t want to play guitar anymore as he lost his calluses and the strings hurt. To Ruby, Cher and Evie and all the family, my condolence in the loss of Clarence.

To my aunt Ruby and cousins Cher and Evie, my condolences to you in the loss of Clarence. Uncle Clarence was always good to me from the time we lived at Grandma and Jedah Jacobs when I was in Grade 2 and going to Number 11 School, going to the longhouse, playing ball together with the Smoothtown Cubs, and being our 3rd line neighbour. My memories will endure of watching him throwing a rise ball and striking out batters and hitting an inside the park home run in order to get to first base! My prayers will be with you from Manitoba.

I had the pleasure to meet Clarence years ago playing ball. Not only was he an excellent pitcher, but an excellent human being. Right away his gentle nature and sense of humor came through and a small friendship appeared. We did not keep in touch too much as life moved along, but he was a man that always stayed in my mind bringing a smile to my face. May he continue to smile down on his family and loved ones forever. Rest easy old friend.

Sending our condolences to Ruby, Cheryl and Ev and all the families. As long as I can remember, Clarence played music such a great talent. He would pitch for the Ball Team also that Cecil played for. He helped in many ways especially for the Six Nations Health Foundation, setting up and taking down, attending some meetings and events. Most of all he loved and cared for his wife and family. He will always be remembered.
With love from Bonnie and Cecil Davis and Families.
