Watio Matthew Tehawerénhton Miller
December 1995 – June 2023

This is my story...It was close to Christmas in the year 1995 when I was born in Hamilton, Ontario.  I was taken from my biological mother and placed in a different room.  Six days later, I came to know the ones I know call Mom and Dad and they took me home.  My biological mother had named me Matthew and the one I call Dad gifted me my Kanyen’kehá:ka (Mohawk) name – Tehawerénhton – which means “the wind that comes down from the east.” Most people call me by my nickname, Watio.

When I was two years old, I was diagnosed with a cognitive condition.  Doctors said my learning development would cease at eight years old.  My Dad only spoke Mohawk to me and my Mom spoke only English.  So, today, I speak both language and I am still learning.

This picture was taken last spring at our homestead and notice the orb that looks like a feather to my left.  My spirit lives and my love to all endures.

Watio Matthew Tehawerénhton Miller born December 12, 1995, and his journey to his ancestors began June 15, 2023, at Brantford General Hospital.

Resting at home at 1521 Second Line on Saturday June 17th.  Visitors welcome after 6:00pm, wake to follow.  Funeral Sunday June 18th at 11:00am at Mohawk Longhouse at 3098 5th Line.  Internment at Stump Hall.  Arrangements by Styres Funeral Home, Ohsweken.

Dear Watio,

I am absolutely honored to have been able to come into to your life. I appreciate your acceptance.

I admire your flow. You flow so effortlessly while painting , playing piano, building Lego and other activities that allow you to create . Your attention to detail and ability to do intricate meticulous tasks is so admirable. You can spot a spec of dirt from a mile away. You do everything to it's fullest. You are one spectacular man !

Your smile shows acceptance and can light up a room ! Your laugh is next level . You can't help but to laugh with you when you hear it . Your internal dialog of funny sayings and words must help to keep you happy . The happiness just spreads to those around you. Just being in your presence is so uplifting. You have a very special gift.

You are such a kind and caring soul. The way you play with your cat and have her come and lay with you is so beautiful. You gave up the balls I got you when you realized that the cat enjoyed them. The way you listen to the stories I tell you about my family and admire my pet pictures is so nice. You have a genuine interest in others .

You move with such determination and power. I laugh that sometimes even though your currently strapped to a pole you are faster then me and run over anyone or anything in your path

I have seen you go from awkwardly holding your Nintendo remote to utilizing both hands and controlling it so well . The way you can balance the most awkward action figures and Lego figures to make them stand is mind blowing I don't know how you do it. You understand their physics and can always make them stand. You are very smart and have great determination.

The fact that you can speak your Mohawk and English is so special. I love learning words with you. You love cracking dad up when he is taking a break from work . You know what you want and what you don't. You stand firm in your choices and that doesn't surprise me with the great leader you have in your life .

Watio each time I see Sponge Bob,Lego City, Dude Where's my Car or Transformers I will think of you .

I am just so blessed to have had this time with you and I will truly cherish the memories I have . You have touched my life forever. You will forever be in my heart.

All my love to your father to whom I said, on that special day, that he created a miracle by raising you to become a fine young man.
Rest in peace, my beautiful Watio, until we meet again.
All my love and deepest sympathy to you both, Tehahenteh and Michael.
Your sister and friend.
