It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of (Violet) Annette (Anne) Freeman nee Mt Pleasant in her 83rd year. Known as Gila by her parents and close family. She passed peacefully on September 5, 2023 at Iroquois Lodge, Six Nations Reserve.

Smith Kawenni:io; caregiver of our community’s children by character, teaching kindergarten and primary grades for most of her career; and a union and community activist, active as a local union executive for many years and active within her community and church over the years.

Predeceased by Glenn Freeman, husband, friend and partner in all of the pleasures and joys, trials and tribulations that came their way. Loving mother to sons, Mark (Sue), Richard (deceased), Mike and Thomas (deceased), and daughter Theresa (deceased). Cherished grandmother to Amber and great grandmother to Aurora (Chicklet); loving sister to Richard, predeceased by siblings Frank, Margaret, Tom, Sam, Singer, Ruth; loving aunt to many many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Freeman was my inspiration to become a teacher. As her student in Grade 2 at S.S.# 3 school, I made my decision to be a teacher so I could be awesome and smart like Mrs. Freeman.

I was saddened to hear of Anne's passing as I know her sons and granddaughter will greatly feel the loss in the days to come. But I am also happy that Anne is now in her heavenly family's loving embrace- what a reunion! One thing about Anne and the Freeman family is they take their teasing very very seriously. It was always a hoot to be in their company. Anne forever called me her "almost niece". Tell Theresa I miss her and RIP my "almost auntie". xo
