Laverne William Disher
Laverne “Vern” Disher, a beloved member of the Hagersville community, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on November 22, 1927, Vern was the cherished son of Ernest and Margery Disher. His life was a shining example of love, dedication, and selflessness.
Predeceased by his devoted wife, Elsie, and their beloved daughter, Connie, Vern is survived by his son, Bruce (Brenda); his grandchildren, Matthew, Wyatt, and Leanne (Shane); and his adored great-grandchildren, Elyse, Megan, and Erica. He is also survived by his brother, Doug, and his brother-in-law, Clair Barker.
A hardworking and respected businessman, Vern owned and operated a local service station in Hagersville for many years, becoming a trusted figure in the community. His devotion to his wife, Elsie, during her 12-year hospitalization was a testament to his unwavering love and commitment.
In his later years, Vern found joy and purpose in his woodworking. From his workshop, he crafted countless wooden toys for children, which he donated to local organizations and used to raise funds for War Amps Canada, a cause close to his heart. His generosity and community spirit were recognized in 2018 when he was named Hagersville’s Citizen of the Year.
Vern will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man who touched the lives of all who knew him. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 29th at 3 p.m. at Hagersville Cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow at the Hagersville Legion, Branch #164.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to War Amps Canada in Vern’s memory.
Vern’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched with his generosity and love.

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. I wanted to recall a story. When I was 18, Ralph Lishman and I were involved in a minor car accident. (We went into a ditch just outside of Jarvis.) We called Craddocks Towing and he told us we had to call the police first. We had been drinking and was trying to make last call at the Explorer Inn. I called Vern and he came and got us out. Ralph and I pooled our money to pay him but he refused and told us to "Chalk it up to experience". That act of kindness was never forgotten. He was a great neighbour to Colleen when she owned the house next door. His loyalty to Elsie was incredible. He visited her every day when she was in the hospital. He always had one of the best Christmas houses in town. Your parents were a major part of our lives growing up. Jim and Anita McGrath

My condolences to Bruce and Brenda and your family on the passing of Vern. He was there to help when need be. There aren't a lot of people to really look up to these days, but Vern was up on a pedestal. Rest in peace. Terry Mitchell

Our deepest condolences to Bruce, Brenda and family.
Vern had the patience of a saint, and your mom too.
They put up with so much from us; the meals at your home, camping, long trips, the motorcycle, the cars and the constant repairs to our equipment and us!
Vern was one of a kind!
Vern and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Bruce, Brenda and Family. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to you with the passing of your beloved father, grandfather Vernon. We were fortunate to be neighbours for over fifty years and had the wonderful opportunity to observe the kind, caring and thoughtful person he was in both business and personal life. I arranged a few years ago to take him to see his favourite NHL team “ The Leafs” in TO. We had Corporate seats ice side and he wore his “ classic Maple Leaf Jacket. Before the game started Leaf personnel approached us, ask Vernon about his Jacket and he proudly stated “ it’s older than you are.” He then was invited for a tour of The facility. They treated him as VIP. I will cherish that memory forever. He was a good man, respected throughout his community and much loved.
May the Almighty give you peace and comfort during this time of deep personal loss.
