Mark Russell LaForme

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Russell LaForme on July 19, 2023. Mark was born on Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and spent his life touring the world playing for crowds big and small.

He was an extraordinarily proud and caring father to Sarah, Cheyenne and Georgia and Grandfather to Marley and Grayson, who all inherited his sense of humour, creativity and humility. Nancy (mother to Sarah) and Gail (mother to Cheyenne and Georgia) look back on many good years that will be cherished and one thing was always certain, Mark loved his girls more than anything.

He is predeceased by his father, Ross “Tubby” LaForme and mother Roma (General) LaForme. He is survived by his loving and supportive siblings David (Mary), Teresa, Linda (Bruce), Kathryn and Rebecca, Aunt Orma Gorton and many nieces and nephews. Uncle Mark had a special bond with his niece Caitlin and her children Wiley and Manny. He spent his final years with his devoted partner Jenn and loved her children Andrew and Alexa (Kane) and grandchildren Keegan and Remington.

He will be remembered fondly by decades worth of talented band mates that he had the utmost respect for, generations of musicians he has influenced and enthusiastic fans. Let his music be his legacy and our medicine.

A celebration of life will be held at the Gathering Place by the Grand (2593 Chiefswood Rd., Ohsweken) on Sunday August 6th at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to “An Instrument For Every Child” (AIFEC) to support the Mark LaForme’s of the future.”

So very sorry to hear of Mark’s passing. Mark’s family were my family’s neighbours. Whenever I saw Mark we would always have a catch-up. A couple of weeks ago, he said he had finally learned the words and music to “Stardust”. He had been asked to sing it at my Mom’s (Reta Monture) funeral but due to prior commitments he wasn’t able to. Now he can serenade my Mom and Dad in heaven. Will miss your music and your smile.

Mark was a gifted on-stage performer. I liked his renditions of the many George Jones tunes that he sang. I also liked his version of the CCR song, Green River. I took photographs of him performing at the old Jockey Club and Dynes Tavern. You knew you would have a good evening when going out to see Mark perform. Good memories of Mark.

With heartfelt condolences to Cheyenne and Georgia and all the family as we remember Mark. We reflect on our wedding day when Mark sang the first dance song. Gone from your sight, but never from your hearts, let the reminiscing on the fun, good times and Matk’s spirit lead you through this difficult time. Wishing you warm memories and peace, (Uncle) Roli, (Aunt) Judy & Lily-Anne (Wilcox/Villemaire).

I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. The good, they die young. My deepest condolences to all of Mark's family and friends. Mark was a truly gifted musician. I have fond memories of the 60's when at a tender of 12 or 13 Mark joined our band. His brother and I had been looking for a 4th member that could play guitar and help with the vocals. Little did we know that Mark would be the one to be the front person for the band and within a few short years move way beyond our local group. He had a natural gift for music, his voice and guitar playing, was far beyond his years. I will miss you Mark, rest in peace.
