Councillor Marie Trainer was a woman who led with compassion, an advocate for the values that shape our community. Her determination was evident in everything she did-from being the past Mayor of Haldimand County, raising 3 boys, running a family business, learning new technology and championing the voices of our residents.
Marie was never afraid to challenge the status quo or push for what she believed, even when it was difficult.
It was that very strength that I drew from, she taught me so much in the short time I knew her. I will always be looking for her around the horse shoe.
Let us celebrate Marie's legacy one built on service, hard work, faith, family and friendship.
My sincere condolences to John, Steven, and Bob and their families.

John, Steve, Bob:
Our sincere sympathy to you and your family. Your mother was an amazing example of community service. She had a superb knowledge of Haldimand County and its people. The last time I spoke with her, she commented on your participation in my music classes at St. Mary’s and I assured her that I had good memories of those days! May she rest in peace.

To the Trainer family.... our sincere condolences on the loss of your mom. She was a servant to the county of Haldimand. My mother loved her visits with Marie. Marie loved the seniors. I don't think I ever encountered Marie in public without a smile on her face and time to chat. She will be missed.

My condolences to Marie's family upon her passing in rather tragic circumstances. I can well remember director's meetings of the original Chamber of Commerce in the late 70's and early 80's. These meetings were usually held at Clayton Heaslip's office and also included people such as Hugh Greenfield, Eldon Johnson and John McKeller. We were all impressed with Marie as a young widow taking over and running the tire business that her late husband had operated until his untimely death. We persuaded her to join the Chamber and once she was onboard and we got to know her, we also encouraged her to run for Council which she did successfully in 1985 and which carried on over the next almost 40 years. She gave her all to the job even to the point of participating in Council meetings by Zoom from her hospital bed. May she rest in peace.
