Lenford Dale Grant
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lenford Dale Grant on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the age of 67. Born in Hillside, Clarendon, Jamaica, Lenney attended Watsonton Primary School in Lionel Town and Glenmuir High School in May Pen before emigrating to Toronto, Canada, with his parents in 1974. He graduated from York Memorial Collegiate Institute and was a member of the Mustangs football team.
Lenney attended Andrews University in Michigan for 2 years and later graduated from both York University and the University of Toronto with degrees in Psychology and Education, respectively. He worked for several years as a teacher, guidance counselor, and basketball coach in several schools in the York Region Board of Education. For two years, he served as the principal of a group of schools in the Marshall Islands. Lenney was an Ontario-certified basketball referee, a position he held until his death.
Lenney is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Carmen. He leaves behind his siblings Jennifer (Neville), Richard (Valerie), Noel, Gerald (Joan), Joan (Errol), Maxine (Hilton), and Aileen (John). Uncle Lenney is sorely missed by his many nieces and nephews and their children, as well as his many cousins and their children, for whom he was an ever-present benefactor. He will also be remembered by the many individuals, schools, churches, and communities throughout the island of Jamaica who have benefitted from his generosity and unconditional support.
Funeral services for Lenney will be held at the Really Living Community Centre, 2060 Upper James Street, Mount Hope (Hamilton), Ontario L0R 1W0 on Friday November 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. (visitation one hour prior to service). Cremation will take place subsequently. Arrangements by Hyde & Mott Chapel, Hagersville, Ontario. www.rhbanderson.com

On behalf of the PRBABO officiating community, we are saddened to hear of Lenny's passing. He was a long time member in Peel, mentor and friend to many basketball officials. A truly humble man both on and off the court, his calm demeanour, integrity, and commitment to the game set an example for so many of us who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond the whistle, he was known for his genuine care for others as evidenced by all his humanitarian efforts in his home country of Jamaica.
Our condolences go out to Lenny’s family and loved ones. May you find comfort in knowing how deeply he was respected within our organization.
Rest in peace, Lenny. You will be missed.
