Kurt Gibson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Kurt Gibson on December 20, 2024, at the age of 28. Kurt’s life, though brief, was filled with love, passion, and dedication to the people and causes he held dear.
Born to Pamela Jane Skye and Chester Gibson, Kurt grew up with a deep sense of loyalty and love for his family. He is survived by his beloved sisters, Maeghan Kaye Gibson, Kimberly Gibson, and Jenna Hill, and his brother-in-law, Christopher Hill. He was a special uncle to Kenny Porter and Nala Hill, who will forever cherish the moments they shared. He is also survived by great-aunts and uncles: Carol Doolittle (nee Jamieson), Louise Hill, Scott Hill P.R. and Shirley Hill (nee Vyse), Edith Mortorana (nee Skye), and Mervyn Fraser.
Kurt was deeply loved by his aunties Jessi Skye (Gibson), Denise Skye, and Uncle Gregory Skye, as well as his uncles and aunties: Pam Skye (nee Kick), Dr. Dawn Martin Hill, Valerie Johns, Lehman and Cheryl Gibson, John Gibson, Ron and Tanya Gibson, Donald J. Gibson and Azuza Kijima, and Uncle Brian Skye.
Kurt is also lovingly remembered by his cherished cousins: Richard Gibson, Taylor Gibson, Sharmaine Gibson, Jason JJ Gibson, Skylar Gibson, Chelsea Gibson, Ryan Gibson, Jordan Gibson, Kira Gibson, Stephanie Chrysler (Skye) and Shannon Chrysler, Chris Skye and Char Hemlock Skye, Courtney Skye and Anthony Erie, Sabrina Skye, Zackary Skye, Viola Skye, Roxanne Skye, Valerie Toulouse (nee Skye), Bill Skye, Sidnee Marina Miller, Makasha Henry (nee Lookinghorse), Cody Lookinghorse, Keeghan Skye, Tayden Skye, and Spencer Skye (Spenny). He had many dear friends, including Cody Van Fleet, Bobby Hill, Randy Henry, Mike Davis, and Joe Froman and dear love of Olivia Johns. who shared countless memories and adventures with him.
He was predeceased by his Uncle Leal Gibson, grandparents Alice and Lehman Gibson, Hubert and Bertha Skye (nee Fraser), Auntie Deborah Skye, Uncle Darwin Skye, great-grandparents Hiram Skye and Ida Skye (nee Ireland), great-uncle Andrew Skye, great-auntie Mina Styres, and great-auntie Irene Spizla (nee Davey).
Kurt was a dedicated student at the University of Waterloo, where his passion for the environment guided his studies. As a committed environmental steward, he worked tirelessly to preserve and protect the natural world he loved so deeply. Kurt was also a talented AAA hockey player, known for his skill and determination on the ice, and he found joy in competing and bonding with his teammates. An avid lacrosse player, he continued to thrive in sports, where camaraderie and teamwork were central to his experience. Beyond athletics, Kurt loved music, which often provided him solace and connection, and he spent countless hours playing video games with friends and family, creating cherished memories through shared laughter and bonding.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Home. Kurt will be resting at his home after Monday night, and his funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Onondaga Longhouse, with interment at Lower Cayuga Longhouse.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lower Cayuga Building Fund in Kurt’s memory.
