Hank Veurink

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21

On Friday afternoon, February 18, 2022, the Lord in His infinite wisdom called home a beloved husband, dad and grandpa, Hank Veurink at the age of 68.  Hank was born in Ommen, the Netherlands on November 15, 1953 and immigrated to Canada in 1963.  He married the love of his life, Alice, on October 12, 1979.

Hank ran a dairy farm in Thunder Bay from 1977-1994 and continued chicken farming in Waterford and cash cropping with sons until his partial retirement in 2010.  He loved to serve the Lord by serving others, including in South Sudan through Cal Bombay Ministries, and as an elder of the church for many years.

Hank will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Alice (nee Tempelman), his 5 children, Cheryl (Jerry) Arrendell, Nancy (Paul) Knopp, Kevin (Shannon), Andrew (Brittany) and Rachel (Kyle) Struyk.  Loving grandpa to 16 grandchildren.  Survived by his siblings, Minnie (Herb) Grootenboer, Fritz (Alice), John (Arlene), Hans (Diane), Jerry (Nancy), Ben (Ruth), Jeannette Tempelman and Melinda (Dave) Haveman.

He is predeceased by grandson, Josiah Knopp (2009), granddaughter, Cara Veurink (2013), parents Hendrik Jan (2006), Geziena (2019), father in law Dick Tempelman(1987), brother in law Henry Tempelman (2006).

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church on 139b Talbot Street E, Jarvis from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday February 23, 2022.  All family and friends are invited to a memorial service held at Grace Reformed Church at 514 George St., Dunnville, on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Den Hollander officiating.   In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cal Bombay Ministries at gardensofhopecharity.org would be appreciated.  Arrangements by Hyde & Mott Chapel, Hagersville.  www.rhbanderson.com

My sincere sympathy to all of Hank’s family and friends. May the Lord grant you comfort and peace. My memories of Hank were being best friends with my brother John. His sister Minnie is one of my besties from back in the day. Their parents were cousins and best friends, travelling together with mine and I know my parents miss them dearly. Hank will be reunited with his parents and other family members. As we grieve we can also look forward to when “we meet again”.

When I heard that Hank passed it felt like a huge loss. He was someone I respected and loved bumping into . Through farming church and foodgrains committee etc etc. In the middle of November we would always tease each other as I was 3 days older than him. Our sincerest sympathy to your entire family

Dear Alice and family. Your family has had to deal with much grief in the past years. You've experienced the loss of children/grandchildren and now the loss of a husband, father and grand father. I want you to know how much Hank meant to me. While we haven't connected much over the past years because of distance, I will always look back to the time I worked on the farm with Hank in Thunder Bay and when I lived in the house with your family. Working with Hank and the Veurink brothers and Hank's dad was such an influential time in my life. I will always look back on that time with fondness and gratitude. Hank was an incredibly good and gracious man. He was a man of faith and integrity and his life influenced the lives of many, mine included. He will be greatly missed. The way he'd throw his head back when he laughed, the way he would lean a bit and tilt his head to the side when he listened to you. The way his temper could flare up in one minute, and then be fine the next. The way he could put life in perspective, leaving the stuff he couldn't control in the hands of his Heavenly Father He taught me many lessons. And when I was living in your house, I was treated like family. I have a great picture of Hank and I, sitting in the front lawn after a long day of work, having a beer together. Again, I wouldn't be where I am today without the influence of Hank Veurink. Huge heart, strong faith, tons of love. He will be greatly missed. May the Lord bless and keep you Alice and family. May God's strength uphold you. May the comfort of knowing that Hank is in the arms of your Heavenly Father give you hope and peace in the days to come. My heart breaks for you.

Rita and I want to extend our condolences to you and your family at this difficult time with the loss of Hank. Did not know him well but we did connect at the Sugar Creek Resort in Florida. We even attended a talent night together one evening when we were there. He wand his brother Hans were helpful when Rita had an accident. Believe Hank lived his life to the fullest and his family and friends meant everything to him. May our Heavenly Father give you all that you need at this very sad time.

Deep and sincere condolences to you all. So very sorry. Prayers for Hank, are now for his beloved ones left behind. Many memories of childhood spent at your home in Thunder Bay have surfaced for me as I think of you all trying to come to terms with what has happened. I will always remember the laughter in your home, often instigated by your Dad. Electric fences, forts in the tree line, Sunday soup… I remember once your Dad asking us who had the biggest mouth as we had lunch. We all eagerly opened our mouths as wide as we could to win this latest contest. Your dad drew it out, not sure whose was the biggest…laughing and probably enjoying the moment of silence as we all sat with mouths gaping. I hope all your multitude of precious memories will ease your pain, along with the only comfort we have - belonging to our Saviour in life and in death. May God carry you all close to His heart as you grieve Hank’s absence. I’m sorry, words don’t do justice to the enormity of your loss.

Dear Alice and family Veurink
Also through this way I would like to offer my condolences to all of you on the loss of Hank.
As I also read in another post, I also have very nice memories of the time I worked on the farm in thunderbay.
I wish you all a lot of strength in the coming time to cope with this loss. But we may know that we may meet again with our heavenly father.
Revelation 21:4 NIV
He will wipe all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no sorrow, no mourning or pain, for those things belong to the old world that is gone.”

My heart broke as I heard about Hanks death, my father Fred and Hank were amazing friends and I know my Dad is incredibly sad by his passing. Hank had an impact on my life as well seeing his boldness in business coupled with his fantastic, fun loving personality inspired myself. Hank and I got along well and a great memory I have and will cherish is the lunch I shared with him and my Dad just a few months ago in which we laughed, prayed and had some deep discussion. He will be incredibly missed! Into Gods hands he goes! Amen and thankyou Jesus!

Dear Aunt Alice,
So very sad to hear of Uncle Hank. He will be missed by so many. I'm so thankful to God for such an uncle. Always up for a good laugh, hard working and committed to the Lord and what he put his heart on. I'm thankful for the many times we had together, even driving one time from Thunder bay to Hamilton. It is hard to believe he is gone. Yet I know he has been transferred from earth to be with his Lord and I look forward to seeing him again! Where there will be no more goodbyes.
