Gregory Cal Smith
December 11, 1978 - May 25, 2024
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Gregory Cal Smith, cherished father of Jeremy (Shay), Hadowas (Shelby), Sofia and Gregory. Proud Papa of Ava. Lovingly remembered by Ronnie. Survived by his parents, Scott and Kathy, his sisters; Amy(Pat), Cheri (Marshall), and Kate (Isaiah). As well as his in laws Ron and Eva, Christina, Mandy,Pam (Ike), and Julie (Dave). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his aunts and uncles. Predeceased by his grandparents Joe and Annette Montour, and Dave and Wilma Smith. Cal will be greatly missed by his “Jam Shed” family, and fondly remembered by many friends, and teammates.
He was an accomplished lacrosse player, playing for the Six Nations Arrows, and Haudenosaunee Nationals (previously the Iroquois Nationals). Cal was known as a skilled, long pole defenseman where he attended and played at Wesley College, Herkimer County Community College, and Adelphi College. He was a proud member of the Six Nations Arrows team personnel winning the Minto Cup in ‘07, ’14, and ’15. Cal was an avid music lover and supporter, traveling all around the world to see his favourite artists play live. He loved sharing those adventures and creating new memories with his kids and friends. The family would like to send our sincere appreciation to Cal’s special friends; Curt Styres, and Wali Razaqi for their support during this difficult time.
Cal is resting at his family homestead, 1228 2nd Line, Ohsweken after 1 p.m. on Friday, where a celebration of Cal’s life will take place at 6 p.m. Funeral will take place on Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Styres Funeral Home, Ohsweken. www.rhbanderson.com
