Frederick James “Fred” Ortt
April 2, 1947 - October 22, 2024
Cherished husband of 50 years to Betty (Bassindale) Ortt. Son of the late Gerald & Grace (Wallace) Ortt. Brother of Irene (deceased) (Bill Skorpid), and the late Marilyn, and James. Brother-in-law of Howard (Bev), Harold (deceased) (Alice), and Carolyn (Frank). Fred will also be sorely missed by his many nieces and nephews who loved their time spent with him and Fred loved them right back. We will love you forever, Fred.
Fred was born and raised in Hamilton. He belonged to the Hamilton Sheet Metal Union 537 and made and installed sheet metal at various construction locations in the area including National Steel Car, Stelco, Mohawk College and Imperial Oil and the OPG hydro plant at Nanticoke. Later on he got his natural gas licence and worked for local businesses before having his own business for 10 years.
Fred treasured the many friendships made when taking part in various sports throughout his life including hockey, baseball, hunting, fishing, pool, bowling, skeet and trap shooting and golf. He thoroughly enjoyed watching birds and wildlife in their natural surroundings. Fred could often be seen cruising the neighbourhood and countryside trails in his Gator side by side. He took great pleasure in the adventures of searching his Ortt roots back to the USA, meeting new cousins in the process.
The family will honour his life with a visitation at Hyde & Mott Chapel of R.H.B. Anderson Funeral Homes Ltd., 60 Main St. S., Hagersville on Friday October 25 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm where the Funeral Service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024 at 1 pm. Interment at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Cheapside followed by a reception at the Selkirk Christian Chapel. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Lung Association or WHGH Auxiliary. www.rhbanderson.com

Betty, so sorry to hear of Fred's passing. So many memories of him, from his time spent with dad doing various adventures to the many nights you would both come play cards with Mom and Dad. He was a great mentor, community and family member. He will be missed.

Betty we were so heart broken to hear of Fred's passing. Fred was a dear friend for many years he loved the outdoors he would hear a bird singing and know exactly what kind of bird it was.
