Dorothy Mae Phibbs   Nee: Myke
February 23, 1926 - January 8, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that the Phibbs' family announce the passing of Dorothy. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 72 years Keith. Loving mother of Larry & Rosemarie, Bob & Pam, Daphne & the late Bob Cowan, the late Richard “Leroy” & Shirley, and Rodney (deceased) & Faye. Dear grandma of 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Sister of Amelia Mercanti Murphy. Sister in law of Kathleen Brennan, and Ruth Wilcox. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by siblings Norris, Roy, Ken, Robert, Velma, Dean, and Robert. Dorothy’s childhood prepared her for the resiliency, humour and family importance that were needed in her marriage to Keith and her inclusion into the extended Phibbs' family. From being “left in the well”, to dealing with her 5 children, to packing up the motorhome, to getting the grandkids to pick the dill or being the ever present passenger in Keith’s truck, Dorothy was memorable to all she met. She was a force to be reckoned with, a fierce supporter of those she loved and she will be remembered as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to children who knew her as Grandma Dot, the counter-balance to Keith’s antics. Dorothy was a member of her own large family, with many siblings, nieces and nephews - some that she would meet in her adult life and include like she had known them forever. The ever growing family parties always welcomed everyone and anyone. Dot made sure that there was always enough food, drink and love to go around. After meeting Dot once, you were always welcome to drop in - even if you had to be Santa as part of the initiation to the family. Dot enjoyed travelling, experiencing what was out there and everywhere she and Keith went on their travels, they are remembered in a positive light. No matter where she went, Dorothy’s home in Selkirk was where she always enjoyed the most. She leaves us having lived to the best she could and made the best of what she had. She lived to keep learning, keep exploring, keep making friends but always remembered that family is where you are accepted, welcomed and supported. Cremation has taken place. A Family Service and Interment will take place at a later date at St. John’s Anglican Church, Cheapside. The family ask that you raise a glass for Dorothy, remembering the laughter, friendship, support and acceptance she brought to those who knew her. Although she is gone, she will be forever present as the head of a loud, boisterous, stubborn and sometimes wild group. She is with Keith again, and for that the family is grateful. I am sorry to hear of Dorothy’s passing. She was a wonderful woman. Both her and Keith were friends of my parents and brought so much love and laughter into our home in Selkirk when they visited. They traveled to Texas in their RV and visited with my parents at their home there also. My parents were thrilled.
One story I have is that often my mother would often serve Dorothy tea when she visited (yes tea). Of course this meant getting out the chine tea cups. When my mother passed away we made sure that Dorothy got one of moms tea cups. You have lots of stories to tell to keep you busy ... memories make times like this so much easier.

She was a great person and a great teammate to Great Uncle Keith and raised a great family! I really felt that wonderfully written obituary as it touched on many aspects of her life. Cherish the memories as they will last forever!
