Donald Harvey

Lorraine, my partner in life, we’ve always been side by side, even though there were times we weren’t. You have done a fabulous job of bringing up our children and taking care of me. I love you very much.

To my children, Thank you for helping out so much with Lorraine and I. Thank you for giving us so much entertainment over the years. And thank you for getting yourselves educated.  Now, when the end is near, you’re all here supporting each other, Lorraine, and me, doing the best you can to help, which is wonderful.  I love you all.

To all my friends, relatives, hockey buddies, I love you all.

I played hockey all my life. I was born in Quebec, and with many others kids out at the park playing hockey, or ball in the summer.  Iplayed junior hockey from 14-18 for the Lachine Maroons. After moving to Selkirk, I began playing Old Timer’s hockey for Cayuga, Waterford, and Port Dover. My hockey career ended with COVID when I was 80 years old.

I also coached soccer in Selkirk, softball in Selkirk and Fisherville, and hockey in Cayuga. I encouraged all my kids to play sports and they all did, and did very well. I am a staunch Maple Leafs fan, and Blue Jays fan in the summer.

As an expression of your sympathy, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Condolences

Don was my brother-in-law since July 1963. I am so very grateful that he cared so much for the family. He had a kind, generous heart (although I didn't always appreciate his sense of humour.) As time went on, we both mellowed. Don was always respectful and thoughtful, especially when it really counted. He thought the world of him mom who moved to Dunnville and retired there. She was such a wonderful woman, very practical and could make us all laugh with her funny hats or outfits on Centennial celebrations' days and lively activities with the Dunnville seniors! The Harvey kids are so special and a real tribute to their parents and grandparents. We are especially thankful and amazed at the only granddaughter: Eleanor Harvey, who has achieved phenomenal results in Women's Fencing at the Olympics. The first medal winner for women in Canada, ever! Without Don, we may not have had such a hardworking inspiring athlete in our family. Dear Don: thank you for all your tremendous efforts over time both participating in sports and coaching young people. Thank you for being flexible and working hard to overcome life's trials and keep carrying on, making lemonade when handed lemons!
We enjoyed many good family times in your company and appreciate your love of nature: the wild birds and life in the country. Thank you for being so responsible and teaching us by example to make wise decisions in life. The beautiful qualities you expressed light up your time with us!

So sad to hear of Don's passing and my sincere condolences to Lorraine. Don was a good friend to my dad all those old-timer hockey years and was a friend to me. Sad to hear of his passing but was glad to have known him.

To the Harvey family,

Although its been a few years it is with great joy that I look back at my time spent with Don. He was attentive, caring, witty and quick to present his opinion. I looked up to Don, he has had a positive influence on my life. Thanks Don.
