Condolences to Alan and family on their sad loss. Carol will be dearly missed.

Carol was one of the lovely stories from WW ll, a creation of a Canadian soldier and a British war bride. Born in England during the war, her parents, Bill and Peggy Burnett settled in Bill’s home town of Virden, Mb, shortly after the war. Carol was 3 years older than her younger sister, Edie. I have many fond memories of growing up with Carol and Edie in Virden in the 50’s near our grand parents. I recall Carol and Edie learning to jive when that dance was all the rage. I remember being so envious when Carol was learning to drive with her dad and my dad (her Uncle Bert). I was the girls pesky little cousin, 5 years younger than Carol, always in the way and a boy to boot. Virden was a small but booming town when we were kids…..mainly due to oil. Carol and Edie attended school there but moved to Dauphin, Mb with their parents around 1960. It was in Dauphin that Carol met a handsome young RCMP officer, Alan Winger and a romance began. Carol and Alan were married in Virden at a lovely old field stone house church and they moved back to southern Ontario shortly afterwards. I lost touch with Carol for many years with the exception of a short visit in 1970 when I lived in Toronto briefly. It was wonderful to see her young family at the time. Like many families seperated by great distances, it was mostly weddings and funerals that brought us all together again. I'll miss you lots Carol.
