Reece Harvey McBurney
September 23, 1944 - April 28, 2025



Reece Harvey McBurney passed away peacefully at Anson Place in Hagersville, April 28, 2025. Reece was born and raised on the family farm just outside of Hagersville, the youngest son of Charles and Olga (Jepson).

He farmed as well as owned and operated McBurney Greenhouses, where he grew annual bedding plants, hanging baskets, and poinsettias. Reece was a sports fan – he played baseball in his youth and cheered for the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. He enjoyed spending time on Sturgeon Lake, fishing, playing hoss, crokinole, and checkers with his mother, family, and friends.

Reece is predeceased by his father Charles, mother Olga (Jepson), brothers Earl and Doug, and sisters Myrtle and Rhea. He is survived by brother David (Joan) and many nephews and nieces.

The family would like to give special thanks to Louanne Matthews, Doug Reid, and the staff at Anson Place for their care of Reece in his later years. A graveside service will be held at Hagersville Cemetery on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 11 am.  Arrangements by Hyde & Mott Chapel, Hagersville.  www.rhbanderson.com

Our deepest condolences to the McBurney family. I worked with Reese over the years and became a good friend of his. I have so many great memories and enjoyed the time spent with him. Our prayers are with the family.

I always loved going to the greenhouse to get my plants. I especially loved it at Christmas time going to look at all the poinsettias. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Many years ago, I knew Reece’s sister, Myrtle Pearson. We were friends and neighbours on Florence Street, Hamilton. She often mentioned Reece in conversation when we were together. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Dear Joan...so sorry to read Reece's obit on line this morning. Brian & Reece were only roommates for year & half at Anson & I always enjoyed chatting with him.

Our condolences to the McBurney Family! It was always a pleasure to visit with Reese, we would talk about my things and it was always great to buy his flowers , when he had the greenhouse .
